This one-hour talk focuses on three things:
Take a wild ride as Kim Lapacek recounts the journey from her first quilt to the present. Through the years, many of Kim’s quilts have been inspired by challenges, which helped tease out her true quilting style – an “oddly beautiful” display of color, motion, and texture. You’ill see traditional quilts created quite untraditionally, sampler quilts with a twist, and a wide variety of art quilts. Kim will have patterns and "fabric" quilting-related jewelry for sale
Through the years many of Kim’s quilts have been inspired by challenges, which helped tease out her true quilting style – an “oddly beautiful” display of color, motion, and texture. You will learn about how Kim takes in a challenge, 'dreams' about it for inspiration and comes up with a final quilt that is completely outside the square of normalcy. Sit back and enjoy as you look at Kim's award winning quilts and here the history behind them..
Follow Kim Lapacek of PersimonDreams on her journey of writing a book ... or not. She will share with you what she did to get her very first book deal:
1. Coming up with the concept
2. Writing the proposal
3. Designing the quilts
And then she will share with you how that all fell apart - and how that was the best thing that could have happened! Her journey will inspire you to follow your heart, your design aesthetic and be ok when things don't work out as initially planned.
Groups may choose from one of the workshops below.

Stretch yourself and capture the sparks of creativity in a class with Project QUILTING’s mastermind Kim Lapacek. PQ’s inspired, limited-timeframe challenges can be a great way to kick start your artistic process. You’ll see a trunk show of projects made for past challenges, work through the thought process of the “limited unlimited,” learn a few new techniques and skills to try, and then give it a shot with a special PQ class challenge!
Pull out your fun scraps and turn them into a unique Dresden Neighborhood! We'll put a whimsical 'twist' on
the traditional Dresden Plate, cutting, piecing, applique and stitching to make an adorable wall hanging! Once
you learn Kim's techniques, you'll never look at a traditional block the same way.
I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm about creativity through teaching and lecturing.
I've had amazing reviews from guilds and was honored to be a keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts.
