Hi! I'm Kim Lapacek
Get to Know Me

I am a 40+ year old mother, wife, artist, apple orchardist, retired civil engineer, and entrepreneur.

I’m currently in a major quilting phase of my creative endeavors. In 2010, I came up with the concept for Project QUILTING and since we’ve started the challenges, thousands of quilts have been created and hundreds of dollars worth of prizes have been given away.

I’m a HUGE fan of quilt alongs. It’s really helped me hone my piecing skills and try things I never thought I would try before. Also – they’ve been great for helping me use up my scrap stash! Whatever level of quilter you are, don’t rule out a quilt along just because you don’t need ‘another’ sampler quilt – there is so much to learn out there – you’ll surprise even yourself!

I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm about creativity through teaching, lecturing, blogging and via social media.

About Persimon Dreams
Why the name "Persimon Dreams"?

I chose Persimon after my third daughter Persimoni. I did run it by the older girls first so they wouldn’t feel bad and they okayed the name – it helps too that we don’t actually call her Persimoni ... we call her Pip. We didn’t put two m’s in her name like the fruit, persimmon, so I didn’t put two in my business name either.

The "dreams" portion of my name comes from where many ideas emerge: in my sleep, especially in the dreams right before I wake. Inspiration and ideas have come to me countless times this way, and I know I can count on my dreams to help me create.

Before you start any of my patterns please check here to see if there are any updates to the patterns. I do my best to make sure they’re correct when they’re published but unfortunately no one is perfect.

Dresden Neighborhood

Most copies have been updated but some of the first patterns indicate that you will need a 1/2 yard of fabric for the background. This will work but you would have to piece it to make it 24.5″ square. If you don’t want to piece your background start with 2/3 yard of fabric.

*I recommend the EZ Quilting Dresden Plate which has a maximum height of 8”. Other DRESDEN rulers will also work but if the wedge is longer than 8” you will either trim the wedges to 8” OR make your background larger to fit the longer wedges.
