Be a Goldfish Quilt Finish

The first Project QUILTING Challenge of Season 17 concluded last Sunday and I was blown away by the participation and the talent! So many great quilts were made with the "A Clean Slate" challenge from yoga mats to a crinky toy to political statements to pieces of playing. These are just a few of the 90+ quilts made for the challenge and I hope you take time to go through the link ups, click through to the entries and comment with your support to these artists.

I told my daughter Pip what the challenge was and she was instantly like "You have to make a goldfish quilt!" Of course I did! Ted Lasso is one of my favorite shows and one of the things he says to the players is to "Be a Goldfish." A goldfish has 3 second memories so when you make a mistake you need to forget it and move on. Thinking about it over and over does no good and you'll just make more mistakes so the best thing is to Be a Goldfish.

I headed to etsy to find a pattern to use for my goldfish quilt. I didn't want anything too big as I like to quilt it on my own sewing machine.

The first pattern that caught my eye was this Goldfish Stingray Jelly fish pattern from ModernFPPpatterns. I just loved all three of the fish and knew even though I only needed a goldfish, I'd one day also make the stingray and jelly fish.

But then, I did browse a little more and Goldie the Goldfish by KeperandTwill jumped out at me! I had to make her! Not only is it an adorable goldfish but it's a bag like you win at the fair! This may be terrible, but I am super addicted to winning goldfish at fairs. I now it's a waste of money but I can't truly describe the joy I feel when that dented ping pong ball actually lands in a little aquarium.

So, Goldie the Goldfish I was. This pattern is actually traditionally pieced so it went together quickly! I had the whole thing pieced and quilted before Sunday was over.

I have been doing a lot of walking foot quilting on my "new" machine because I've ben nervous about free motion quilting. I don't know why! I free motion qiulted this piece and had such a great time! I think a bonus goal for me with Project QUILTING will be to free motion quilt MORE!

I think my favorite little detail on this guy is the piece of cording that is sewn on and tied for the top of the goldfish bag!

I also took the extra pieces from the quilt that were big enough to save and pieced a little mini quilt. My plan is to hand quilt it and then either make it into a piece of miniature art OR make it into a zippy pouch. I'm going to try to use up my extra bits as I go this season instead of keep having all the extras pile up for "some day."

Love this quilt!? I have her for sale in my etsy store HERE. (15" x 19" and a hanging sleeve is attached).

The second Project QUILTING challenge will be posted right here on my website on Sunday, January 18th at Noon, CST. I hope you decide to join in the fun!
