Dresden Neighborhood Color Block Sew Along – Classic Blue January

In 2018 I hosted a Dresden Neighborhood Sew Along.  It was so much fun and helped me create such a crazy, fabulous quilt that I feel like it’s time to do another sew along!  This time around, the theme will be COLOR BLOCK.  Each month of 2020 I’ll share with you a color of the month.  You can either make 12 mini quilts, one large quilt, a couple of baby quilts – whatever!  I hope that these colors will inspire you to create a neighborhood of your own!

***Change of Plans!*** I’m announcing the color focus for each month in 2020 now!  On the 28th of each month I’ll share with you my finished Dresden Neighborhood block for that month! I think this will work a little more smoothly!***

January – Classic Blue February – Honeysuckle (aka Pink) March – Cactus (aka Green) April – Violet May – Jaffa Orange June – Mint Leaf July – Lemon Zest August – Turquoise September – Molten Lava October – charcoal November – Caramel Cafe December – Snow White

On the 28th of each month I’ll feature the new color highlighted for that month that you can utilize when making your quilt  the Dresden Neighborhood block I’ve created featuring the highlighted color!

What do you need to participate?

Purchase my downloadable Dresden Neighborhood pdf Pattern either on my website or etsy here.  (If you already purchased the pattern you’re welcome to join in the fun.  But if you look at the pattern and think you can make it without the pattern I’d still appreciate it if you purchase it since you are then supporting me as a designer.)

HeatnBond Lite

Dresden Plate Ruler.  I recommend the EZ Quilting Dresden Quilt Tool Set too but if you have a different one (for instance – Creative Grids) already that’s not a problem.

Fabric Scraps!  This is a great project to use up your scraps!  The background of each Dresden Neighborhood is 24” square but this can be pieced so again – scraps work just fine.

Optional:

Me and My Sister Designs Me and My Sister Double Wide Dresden Ruler – this will enable you to easily create “double-wide” houses for your neighborhoods!  It’s completely optional.

10″ Diameter rotating cutting mat (or larger but not too large so it doesn’t fit in your sewing area) – this just makes cutting your Dresden Plates easier.  I have one and it’s awesome when I remember that I can just rotate the cutting board and not myself … I just have to actually remember that!

January is Classic Blue

Classic Blue – Pantone 19-4052 – the 2020 Color of the Year is the color of the month for the January Dresden Neighborhood Color Block Sew Along.  As you can see i had no problem finding blue in my scraps!  If you for some reason are lacking in Classic Blue – the Fat Quarter Shop has just the fabric bundle for you!

One thing I did to add a little extra fun to this piece was making my own fabrics out of 1-inch blue strips to use for the roofs and the center circle. It might have created a bit more busier look than I needed since this is already all one color, but that’s pretty much my style anyway so I’m just going to own it.

I hope you decide to join in the fun of this sew along and if you do share your progress with us!
