Last week I shared the process of creating my latest quilt for Island Batik challenge in a fun way – as clues to a mystery quilt on my Instagram account! If you want to make one of these beauties yourself you still can – the end result just won’t be a mystery now!
The Island Batik Ambassador challenge this month was to create a baby quilt using our brand new AccuQuilt GO! die cutters and gorgeous Island Batik Fabrics. I stocked up my Island Batik stash by doing a bit of shopping from Hancock’s of Paducah. I’ll admit – I’ve always been hesitant about die cutters. I mean – I’m pretty good at cutting fabric with just my ruler and rotary cutter – do I really do that. After making this quilt my answer is a resounding YES! It was absolutely beyond incredible being able to cut all these pieces required for this 40” x 40” quilt in LESS THAN ONE HOUR! And piecing those half square triangles – the way the GO! cuts them I do not have to trim after I sew! They’re already perfect. Yes – I know I’m using way too many exclamation points but this cutter is truly a game changer for me and my half square triangle method …
To check out how you can make your very own Island Batik Baby Quilt head to my Instagram for the steps and instructions needed to create the four basic blocks that make up this quilt. All of the blocks made were used with dies from the Accuquilt GO! Cube Mix and Match 8” Block.
Once I had all my blocks made and sewn together it was time to baste the quilt with Hobbs Heirloom Premium cotton batting. This batting is wonderful and quilted beautifully!
I free motion quilted this piece in various motifs and designs using 50 wt. Aurifil thread in 2785 and 4060.
See what the other Island Batik Ambassadors created for this months challenge!
