A Happy Handful - an Umbrella Finish

When I saw that the final Project QUILTING challenge's theme was "a Happy Handful" I instantly thought about the umbrella "bones" and pattern that I've had for ages.

The pattern was made by Judy Gauthier of Bungalow Quilting and Yarn and when I first saw them I knew I'd have to try it. So of course, I bought the pattern and four sets of umbrella bones (I can never just buy one of anything).

I'm not sure why it took. me so long to make this - probably because you have to trace the pattern and cut slightly curved lines and I'm usually too lazy for that. In this case it is worth it!

I decided my first umbrella would be made from softball fabric. I had a decent amount in my stash from making zippy pouches and figured if it didn't work I. wouldn't be too upset about the fabric.

As I worked my way through the pattern and the umbrella started taking shape I was in just awe - I was making an umbrella!

Well - it worked and I already have fabrics picked out for the next three umbrellas. None will look the same!

In the meantime, It will be easy to see where I'm sitting at the softball diamond.
