Blood, Stone, Steel & Fire–Game of Quilts Entry One

Before I get too far into this post I have to admit something. I’ve never seen or read the Game of Thrones. When the Game of Quilts challenge came out I quickly got the first Game of Thrones book so I would have some idea on what I was getting myself into but it was just too close to apple season with too many other distractions to really get into the book (hopefully after this fall). SO … I had to stick with being inspired by the challenge and the fabric.
I also didn’t really have a lot of time to do this challenge … but I really can’t say no to a challenge … especially a friends challenge … so I figured I’d ‘make it work’. I deicide to stick with my stand by – convergence. It always looks cool even though it’s fast and easy to do.
For the ‘Blood, Stone, Steel and Fire’ quilt I decided to have the quilting be the statement of the piece. These quilts had to be 18” square. This is a perfect size for free motion quilting on my Bernina. It is also a really great opportunity to play around with different designs.
I really like my fire, steel (aka sword) and stone quilting … not quite sure about the blood but that was a tricky one. How do you quilt blood? I finished the quilt with a faced binding. It worked out wonderfully!
