They’re at it again. The Fat Quarter Shop is featuring a new block as part of their ‘Classic & Vintage Series – Delectable Mountains!
First … I had to pick my fabrics. It was too hard to decide on fabrics from Jen Kingwell’ – Gardenvale. I may have pre-ordered the bundle from the Fat Quarter Shop to ensure I had it in my stash (did you know you can do that at the Fat Quarter Shop!?).
I pulled out fabrcis that read ‘light’ to me for the background. It was going to be scrappy!
And then I pulled out fabrics that read ‘dark’ for the mountains – again – I’m going for the scrappy look.
And before I knew it – I had an adorable baby quilt! Seriously – what little girl wouldn’t just love to have this?!
One thing I love about making baby quilts is that it’s a great opportunity to practice my free motion quilting on my domestic machine. It’s small enough that it is fairly easy to work with on a domestic machine AND it is intended for a child.
I can guarantee that the child is not going to care if your stitches are perfectly even or your lines are right on target. But what it is going to do is make you more comfortable with different designs and build muscle memory as you work at the machine.
I just had to include this picture because I liked the way the tree looked with the Delectable Mountain Quilt.
I’ve learned to appreciate the wind shots … you can see the stripe print I put on the back of the quilt in this shot too.
Head over to the Fat Quarter Shop’s blog to see what other designers came up with using this ‘Classis & Vintage’ pattern!
