Dutch Treat Quilt

I was thrilled to see Betz White’s new fabric line “Dutch Treat” for Riley Blake Designs.  I was even more thrilled when I was given the opportunity to make something using these fantastic fabrics.

I sketched up a few blocks and finally drew up one that has a bunch of pinwheels … which remind me of windmills so I thought it was fitting for the Dutch Treat theme.

I made my original block in two colorways for a total of four blocks.

I added a thin sashing between the blocks and then pieced a border to emulate the windmills from the block into the borders.  I used Aurifil thread and my Bernina to free motion quilt the top.  It was the perfect size top  (33” x 33”) to quilt on my home machine.

I had to wait for better weather to photograph the quilt … but I have to say … it was worth the wait!

This might be my favorite shot from that evening.  I haven’t named the quilt yet … or the block.  If you have any thoughts on a good name please leave a comment below! Thank you to Betz White and Riley Blake for trusting me to make something cool with the Dutch Treat fabrics.  I’m also excited to say that Betz White will be coming to my area this September to teach at the Modern Stitching Affair.  While I’m extremely disappointed that I won’t be able to go myself (apple season) I hope if you can make it work you’ll consider checking it out!  And Betz … perhaps you can take a little road trip to the orchard so we can meet in person!
