Dutch Tulips Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter Shop

It’s time for another great quilt along with the Fat Quarter Shop – the Dutch Tulips Quilt Along. When they asked if I wanted to sew along with it they told me I could use any fabric I wanted. These are my favorite kind of quilt alongs! I love sharing with you all my “odd” fabric choices and I’m sure you’ll agree that this time is no different.
I decided to go scrappy! I know – Shocker! If I went a little bigger this would have been an ideal project for the Scrap Quilt Challenge.
I also decided to make a table runner/table topper. It’s going to look awesome on my table for Easter this year!
This quilt is a mixture of traditional piecing and applique. I love using mixed techniques. The Orange Peel Set of Impressions Quilting Templates are very useful in making the tulip leaves.
The pattern calls for all the same size leaves … but I had to tweak a couple … or seven and making them just one size larger because I could.
I fused Heat N Bond Lite onto the assortment of green fabrics before making them into leaves. This made placing them and setting them until I’m ready to quilt them easy peasy.
I tried taking photos of the quilt this morning … it was quite windy …
Luckily, the clothespins held for at least a little while so I could get a decent shot.
I think the scrappy white tulips are pushing it a little but I do like the interest it adds to the piece. Three different beige fabrics were used to piece the back. I promise I’ll share with you the finished quilted project when it’s done!
Head over to the Jolly Jabber (aka the Fat Quarter Shops blog) to see how YOU can join in the Dutch Tulips Quilt Along and see what other bloggers created from this great pattern. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
