Perfect 10 Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter Shop–Week 1

My favorite thing to do during apple season are quilt alongs. I don’t have a lot of time to sew but these make it so I have to take at least a little bit of time for myself, yet it is definitely doable.  When the opportunity came along to join in the Fat Quarter Shop’s newest quilt along – the Perfect 10 Quilt Along to help promote the new Perfect 10 Quilt book I jumped at the opportunity!

There were three main things I needed to pick out to join in the fun – a Non-Slip Perfect 10 Ruler (not required but works really slickly with this quilt!), a layer cake and some background fabric.  I initially thought a minty/turquoise for my background but realized I’ve been doing that color combo fairly often. Then I thought about maybe making a themed quilt … and since it’s October I thought Halloween themed would be perfect!

I started looking for orange fabric for my background but then my gut kept pulling me to purples … and I finally went with ombre confetti metallic Aubergine by V and Co for Moda Fabrics for my background. The ombre is going to create some crazy effects on the quilt and really make things look cool!  I love mixing purples into Halloween – the contrast with orange and black is just too fabulous.  The Bewitching Layer Cake by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics had perfect prints for this quilt.  Each week we’ll be sharing the blocks we make per the quilt along schedule.  This week we had to make a

Banana Block

and a

Birthday Cake Block.
