Ziggin’ and a Zaggin’

I was a little late to jump on the Zig Zag Quilt Bandwagon but it wasn’t long before I just couldn’t resist this whimsical geometric look.  So – here I show you my finished Spoonflower Zig Zag color. 

Of course – I had to put a twist on it.  I used my very own Spoonflower Fabrics that I designed…twelve of them in fact…to create unique zig zags.

Stripes – created from a photograph I took of one of my ‘mini pop art’ pieces. 

Spots in pink, cerulean blue, and plum purples – created from a photograph I took of a piece of my ‘mini pop art’

Barn Quilts – created from a photograph I took of my quilt ‘Fractured Barn Quilts’

Plus – created from a photograph I took of my quilt ‘The Mysterious Letter P’ when it was still a work in progress.

Zip City Quilt Print – created from an image of my ‘Zip City Quilt’

Glowing Spots of Lemon Yellow and Cerulean Blue – created from a photograph of my ‘mini pop art’

Trick or Treat – created from a photograph I took of my two little fairies trick or treating.

Barn Quilts – created from a photograph I took of my quilt ‘Fractured Barn Quilts’

Purple Lace, created from a photograph of a hand-dyed plum purple lace doily. 

Tweed Madness, created from a photograph of my Stained Glass Table Runner. 

Flower Garden, fabric created from a photo graph of an original piece of ‘mini pop art’

This last piece was one of my very first fabrics I printed from spoonflower.  I was just playing around and seeing what it could really do.

I took my original spoonflower fabrics and I made large half square triangles.  This quilt went together pretty quickly with quite a dramatic end effect.

When I had the top finished, I sent it to Barb Raisbeck of Quilts by Barb to be quilted.  She quilted each zig zag separately – so that no two of the same designs were adjacent to each other and no two same colored threads were adjacent.  I just love the effect of the quilting!

You can sort of see it better when you look at the back since the front has such busy prints and the back is a marbled blue.

I am very happy with this eclectic zig zag quilt and how it shows off my original prints.  What do you think?  Fun?  Too busy?  (Don’t worry…I won’t be offended…I know this quilt isn’t for everyone!)
