‘Autumn Exuberance’ Quilt

It’s hard to believe this is my final quilt for the Focus Through the Prism Challenge!  The challenge – the people I’ve met and the quilts that have been created – has been an amazing journey over the past seven months. Without further adieu … meet ‘Autumn Exuberance.’

I used ombre fabrics for the main snowballs.  I focused on the reds, oranges, purples and yellows in the main snowball.  I then used my RED cherrywood fabrics for the corners of the snowballs.

I started out piecing things so there wouldn’t be any inset seams … but by the end I decided to just ‘suck it up’ and deal with the inset seams.  It wasn’t too bad.

The tree trunk and branches were just strips of random brown fabrics stitched down with their raw edges exposed.  I think the threads just add more texture and dimension to the tree.

I used brown aurifil thread to stitch fun curls out of the tree branches.  I then used red aurifil to free motion quilt swirls in the sky to depict wind.
