Let’s keep going on the Sixth Annual Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along Clue 4 is here with two new blocks!

Clue 4 – Blocks 7 & 8

Cutting Block 7:
Fabric A: (1) 6″ x 7″ square
Fabric B*: (1) 1.25 ” x 9″ strip (3) 1″ x 9″ strips
*Strip lengths may vary because of the slices you cut. Just make sure the strip length is slightly longer than the background fabric.
Making Block 7:
Orient your Fabric A so 6″ is the height and 7″ is the width.

Make one cut randomly. Place the 1.5″ strip of Fabric B in the cut.

Sew the strip into the Fabric A rectangle. Press towards the Fabric B strip.

Make another cut so it tightly crosses the first diagonal cut made. Place a 1″ strip of Fabric B in this cut.

Sew the Fabric B strip in and press towards Fabric B. Make two more random cuts to the right of the X just made. Try to keep these cuts fairly close together as this block will be trimmed to 4.5″ x 6.5″. Place the last two 1″ strips into these cuts.

Sew the final two strip B’s into the block and press towards Strip B.

Trim Block 7 to 4.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle.
Cutting Block 8:
Fabric A: (1) 7″ x 7″ square
Fabric B: (1) 1.25″ x 9″ strip (1) 1.5″ x 9″ strips
Making Block 8:

Cut two strips so they create a “V” type shape in Fabric A. Place two strips of Fabric B into the cuts. I chose to do a 1.5″ strip and then a 1.25″ width strip. Just make sure the strip length is slightly longer than the background fabric.

Sew the Fabric B strips into the Fabric A square. Press towards the Fabric B strips.

Square the block up to 6.5″ x 6.5″ square.
Once you have your blocks finished please share a post on instagram with the hashtag #pqmysteryqal6 and/or in the Challenge Quilts facebook group. We want to see your progress! The fifth clue will be posted tomorrow at noon!
