Quilt Retreat and a Few Finishes

Yesterday I came up to the Woodland Ridge Retreat Center to prepared for the start of the first ever LIVE Project QUILTING Retreat Challenge weekend!

Well – I guess I had a lot prepared before I even left so it didn’t take too long to get ready (and with some help from friends); it was time to sew! (Trish did I use my semicolon properly?)  update – I did!!!!

Here is my lovely view for the weekend!  Don’t forget to follow along on all the #PQ4Me fun on instagram!

First … I made a kit I had purchased at the International Quilt Show.  I RARELY purchase kits but I loved all the fabric in this kit and the idea of making a yoga mat sounded fun!  This pattern is from the Daily Zen Quilts & Projects Book and it’s called ‘Yoga Mat’ … ironic.  Sometimes it’s really nice to not have to think too hard and just put together a kit.  This was perfect after all the planning I had just been doing.  AND I’m going to have the coolest mat in yoga class!

Once my yoga mat top was finished … I decided to work on the January Aurifil mini quilt.  This year instead of doing a block of the month – each featured Aurifil designer is going to share a mini quilt pattern.  I recently discovered my love of mini quilts; this is a wonderful way to test out different color combinations without committing to too much. (Semicolon check Trish …)

So here is my January Mini Quilt ‘Flurry’.  Designed by Gudrun Erla

It was fun to play with the different shades of blue and blue/green to create this quilt.  I would have to say my favorite though is the pop’s of orange from the Laura Gunn fabric!
