Sarah Goer Quilts – Ultimate Weekly Sponsor for Project QULTING 14.3

Happy Friday everyone! Have you enjoyed your week off from Project QUILTING and caught up on a few things? I pulled out an old WIP and got to work on it and started my Barn Star Blocks for the Quilt Along.

You all still have a few more days before the next challenge (January 29th) but we have some great sponsors to meet! Today we’re going to meet a new to Project QUILTING Ultimate Weekly sponsorSarah Goer Quilts!

Sarah has participated in Project QUILTING for quite a few years … if I did my math correctly this is her 7th season … and her work has continuously impressed me. I’m thrilled to have her join us this season not only as an Ultimate Weekly Sponsor but she has also donated to the weekly and grand prize mix!

Keep reading for a fun little interview I did with Sarah!

Q: Who is your favorite fabric designer?

A: My favorite fabric designer is Alison Glass (#ad). I love blender fabrics (prints that read as a single color) and enjoy the vibrant palette that Alison works in. Her Sunprints (#ad) are my favorite. Fun fact: 100% of my fabric in my PQ 14.1 The First One was Alison Glass fabrics: check it out HERE.

Q: If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would you choose and why?

A: Something by Pink!… maybe So What or Just Give Me a Reason — the high energy music makes me happy. It’s impossible to not dance when it’s on.

Q: What would your superhero power be and why?

A: My superpower is attention to detail. This can be a blessing and a curse. I’ve had to learn to let the small things go, but it has been an asset when I want to do precision work in quilting or other handy tasks. It also means that I always notice discrepancies in TV and movies, like when someone’s mug changes hands mid-scene, or a strand of hair is in front of their shoulder and then behind their shoulder in different camera angles of the same shot.

Q: What was the last gift you gave someone?

A: The last night of Hanukkah I gave my kids and my husband each a Lego set (#ad). My husband was excited about the Galaxy Explorer (#ad) since it’s a new set that is a throwback to the 1970’s classic space legos that he had as a kid.

Q: What is your go pattern for a baby quilt/quick project?

A: One of my favorite fast fabric projects is Jeni Baker’s lined drawstring bag. I made one for a challenge in season 9 of Project QUILTING which you can see HERE.

Q: If you could take one of the classes you offer, which one would you take?

A: My current favorite class to teach (shh, don’t tell my other classes) is Building an Improv Toolbox. Students love that I pack in a wide variety of techniques and give time for them to make samples of what I’m demonstrating. It’s a skill builder and an opportunity to play as students put their own spin on my techniques. There’s still room to join me for Building an Improv Toolbox on March 29, 2023: https://www.sarahgoerquilts.com/classes/live-virtual-workshops/

Q: Tell us about your funniest sewing fail!

A: Maybe not the funniest fail, but a frustrating fail that comes to mind is when I had my extra backing fabric accidentally fold up under the quilt while I was free motion quilting it, so I quilted through two layers of backing fabric. Thankfully I was able to cut away the extra layer of fabric without needing to rip out my free motion quilting. And it taught me to trim my backing fabric closer so that extra fabric wouldn’t be flopping around.

Please share anything else you’d like with us all!

I like to work on numerous projects at once. Keep a lookout on my blog (https://www.sarahgoerquilts.com) and newsletter (subscribe here: http://eepurl.com/dhaqI9

) for my updated WIP list which I will share soon. One of my big plans for 2023 is to purchase a longarm machine… so that will help with some of those WIPs that just need quilting. 🙂

I’m currently teaching and giving lectures on Zoom and in-person. I’m so thankful that virtual teaching on Zoom has brought me to guilds across the United States and Canada. https://www.sarahgoerquilts.com/teaching/
